World Heart Day

© World Heart Federation
World Heart Day was created in 2000 to inform people around the globe that heart disease and stroke are the world’s leading cause of death, claiming 17.1 million lives each year.

Together with its members, the World Heart Federation spreads the news that at least 80% of premature deaths from heart disease and stroke could be avoided if the main risk factors, tobacco, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity, are controlled.

World Heart Day will take place on 29 September each year.

National activities such as public talks and screenings, walks and runs, concerts or sporting events  are organized worldwide by members and partners of the World Heart Federation.

World Heart Federation has identified four actions that can keep heart diseases at bay:
1. Ban smoking completely at your home: By doing so, it will improve the health of the family members and also create a healthy environment to live in.
2. Follow Healthy eating tips: It advocates that a healthy diet that is rich in vegetables and fruits can prevent cardio vascular diseases (CVD).
3. Be Active: Organizing outdoor activities such as hiking trips or simply playing in the playground can avert the risk of heart diseases.
4. Know your numbers: It is very important to know about glucose or cholesterol level, blood pressure and body mass index (BMI) as based on these facts an individual can develop a strategy that would help him/her keep fit and active.

Finally slow down, spend at least 15 minutes a day doing something that you love. This will help you relax, and also help you enjoy and appreciate life. Stay happy, stay healthy - folks!

Amazing Rock Art Site Discovery in Egypt

A Rock Art Site was discovered in Western Gilf Kebir in January 2003. This has become very popular among rock art enthusiasts as the paintings and engravings are well done and well preserved. It is a large semi circular shelter and is larger than Wadi Sora. Although it may take volumes to cover everything at this art site, these pictures have made a good job of showing what the place holds in store for you.
Art that includes negative handprints is one of the unique features of this site. Like in Wadi Sora, this site also has a few headless animals although their symbolism isn't very clear. They have a combination of paintings and engravings where the figures are drawn using a combination of these methods. The paintings and the art in general is very detailed and everything is very well sheltered.
