Talking Loudly in Public (Joke)

After a very busy day, a commuter settled down in her seat and closed her eyes as the train departed Montreal for Hudson.

As the train rolled out of the station, the guy sitting next to her pulled out his cell phone and started talking in a loud voice: Hi sweetheart it's Eric, I'm on the train " yes, I know it's the six thirty and not the four thirty but I had a long meeting " no, honey, not with that floozie from the accounts office, with the boss. No sweetheart, you're the only one in my life " yes, I'm sure, cross my heart etc., etc.

Fifteen minutes later, he was still talking loudly , when the young woman sitting next to him, who was obviously angered by his continuous diatribe, yelled at the top of her voice: Hey, Eric, turn that stupid phone off and come back to bed!

Eric doesn't use his cell phone in public any longer.

Benefits of Cinnamon and Honey

Cinnamon and Honey:

Whoever thought?
Honey is the only food on the planet that will not spoil or rot. What it will do is what some call 'turning to sugar'. In reality, honey is always honey. However, when left in a cool dark place for a long time it will "crystallize". When this happensloosen the lid, boil some water and sit the honey container in the hot water, but turn off the heat and let it liquefy naturally. It is then as good as it ever was. Never boil honey or put it in a microwave. This will kill the enzymes in the honey.

Cinnamon and Honey Bet the drug companies won't like this one getting around. Facts on Honey and Cinnamon:
It is found that a mixture of honey and Cinnamon cures most diseases. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Scientists of today also accept honey as a 'Ram Ban' (very effective) medicine for all kinds of diseases. Honey can be used without side effects for any kind of diseases. Today's science says that even though honey is sweet, when it is taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm even diabetic patients. Weekly World News, a magazine in Canada , in its issue dated 17 J anu ary,1995 has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by honey and cinnamon, as researched by western scientists:

HEART DISEASES:
Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply it on bread instead of jelly and jam and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack. Also, those who have already had an attack, when they do this process daily, they are kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat. In America and Canada , various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as one ages the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the arteries and the veins.

ARTHRITIS:
Arthritis patients may take daily (morning and night) one cup of hot water with two tablespoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. When taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week (out of the 200 people so treated) practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain -- and within a month, most all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis now started walking without pain.

BLADDER INFECTIONS:
Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder..

CHOLESTEROL:
Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water given to a cholesterol patient was found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, when taken three times a day, any chronic cholesterol is cured. According to information received in the said Journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.

COLDS:
Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and, clear the sinuses.

UPSET STOMACH:
Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also clears stomach ulcers from its root.

GAS:
According to the studies done in India and Japan , it is revealed that when Honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.

IMMUNE SYSTEM:
Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacterial and viral attacks. Scientists have found that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use of Honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles (where DNA is contained) to fight bacterial and viral diseases.

INDIGESTION:
Cinnamon powder sprinkled on two tablespoons of honey taken before food is eaten relieves acidity and digests the heaviest of meals.

INFLUENZA:
A scientist in Spain has proved that honey contains a natural 'Ingredient' which kills the influenza germs and saves the patient from flu.

LONGEVITY:
Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests the ravages of old age. Use four teaspoons of honey, one teaspoon of cinnamon powder, and three cups of water and boil to make a tea. Drink 1/4 cup, three to four times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and arrests old age. Life spans increase and even a 100 year old will start performing the chores of a 20-year-old..
RASPY OR SORE THROAT:
When throat has a tickle or is raspy, take one tablespoon of honey and sip until gone. Repeat every three hours until throat is without symptoms.
PIMPLES:
Three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder paste. Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it off the next morning with warm water. When done daily for two weeks, it removes all pimples from the root.

SKIN INFECTIONS:
Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin infections.

WEIGHT LOSS:
Daily in the morning one half hour before breakfast and on an empty stomach, and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one cup of water. When taken regularly, it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also, drinking this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high calorie diet.

CANCER:
Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully. Patients suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder three times a day for one month.

FATIGUE:
Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body. Senior citizens who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts are more alert and flexible. Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, even when the vitality of the body starts to decrease, when taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at about 3:00 P.M., the vitality of the body increases within a week.

BAD BREATH:
People of South America, gargle with one teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water first thing in the morning so their breath stays fresh throughout the day.

HEARING LOSS:
Daily morning and night honey and cinnamon powder, taken in equal parts restores hearing. Remember when we were kids? We had toast with real butter and cinnamon sprinkled on it!

Choice is yours

Some people sit, some people try;
Some people laugh, some people cry;
Some people will, some people won't;
Some people do, some people don't.

Some people believe, and develop a plan;
Some people doubt, never think that they can;
Some people face hurdles and give it their best;
Some people back down when faced with a test.

Some people complain of their miserable lot;
Some people are thankful for all that they've got;
And when it's all over, when it comes to an end;
Some people lose out, and some people win.

We all have a choice, we all have a say;
We are spectators in life, or we get in and play;
Whichever we choose, how we handle life's game;
The choices are ours, no one else is to blame.

Be aware of the signs of depression

A devastating illness, affecting one in four women and one in 10 men at some point in their lives

Black dog, the blues, down in the dumps, the vapours “ whatever you call it, it™s a rare human who doesnt feel low from time to time. But occasional sad days
are a million miles from true depression.
Though many casually use the term œdepressed to describe their glum moments, the condition is much more than simply feeling melancholy.

The fact is that depression is an illness, where sadness is persistent and intense and feelings of helplessness and hopelessness are accompanied
by debilitating physical effects.As Depression Alliance notes, these include disturbed sleep, loss of energy and even physical aches and pains.

Contrary to what some may believe, œsnapping out of a true depression is impossible: the only way to escape its clutches is to seek proper medical advice.

Sometimes people may not realise how depressed they are, especially if they have been feeling the same for a long time, if they have been trying to cope with their depression by keeping themselves busy, or if their depressive symptoms are more physical than emotional,
explains Depression Alliance.

As a general rule, if you have experienced four or more of these symptoms, for most of the day nearly every day, for over two weeks, then you should seek help.

They include:
Tiredness and loss of energy
Persistent low mood or sadness
Loss of self-confidence and self-esteem
Feeling hopeless and helpless
Difficulty concentrating
Feeling tearful
Feeling guilt-ridden
Not being able to enjoy things that are usually pleasurable
Sleeping problems - difficulties in getting to sleep or waking
much earlier than usual.
Avoiding other people
Finding it hard to function at work/college/school
Loss of appetite
Loss of sex drive
Physical aches and pains
Thinking about suicide and death
Self-harm

The symptoms of depression can have a knock-on effect on daily life, with work suffering, social contact falling away and increased difficulties in home and family life.

As the NHS Live well site notes:
Depression can come on gradually, so it can be difficult to notice something is wrong.

Often it takes a friend or family member to suggest there may be a problem.
And while there is no single cause, it can be triggered by a host of different factors “ from bereavement to divorce, illness, job worries, money issues or a combination of things
that lead to a œdownward spiral.
There are some genetic factors, too, and hormonal changes, such as giving birth, can lead to increased instances of depression.

But what can you do if it is blighting your life?
The key thing is to see a Doctor: while there may seem no way out of the mire, the fact is that the sooner you seek help the sooner the depression will lift.

Treatments vary from simple exercise and talking therapies for milder depression, to antidepressants or a combination of the above if symptoms are more severe.
As Patient UK points out: œTreatment takes time to work but has a good chance of success.

There are also some simple self-help tips to follow that can stop depression from getting worse.

They include:
Don't bottle things up “ tell people close to you how you feel
Don't despair “ most people with depression recoverTry to distract yourself with simple things such as watching TV or listening to the radio “
especially if sleeping is a problem Eat regularly and healthily even if your appetite is lacking
Try to take regular exercise in the open air, even if just a brisk walk Don't drink too much alcohol, which can make problems worse
Avoid making major decisions while depressed “ for example quitting a job, moving house or finishing a relationship. Seek treatment first
Tell your doctor if you feel you are getting worse, and particularly if suicidal thoughts are troubling you.

TODAY I TAUGHT MY CHILD

When I got mad today and hit my child
"For his own good, " I reconciled,
and then I realized my plight...
Today, I taught my child to fight.

When interrupted by the phone,
I said, "tell them I'm not home."
And then I thought, and had to sigh...
Today I taught my child to lie.

I told the tax man what I made,
forgetting cash that was paid,
And than I blushed at this sad feat...
Today I taught my child to cheat.

I smugly copied a cassette,
To keep me from one more debt,
But now the bells of shame must peal...
Today I taught my child to steal.

Today I cursed another race,
Oh God, protect what I debase,
for now, I fear it is too late...
Today I taught my child to hate.

By my example, children learn
That I must lead in life's sojourn
In such a way they are led
By what is done and not what is said.

Today I gave my child his due
By praise for him instead of rue.
And now I have begun my guide;
Today I gave my child his pride.

I now have reconciled and paid
to IRS all that I have made.
And now I know that this dear youth,
Today has learned from me the truth.

The alms I give are not for show,
And yet, this child must surely know
That charity is worth the price:
Today he saw my sacrifice.

I clasp within a warm embrace
My neighbor of another race.
The great commandment from up above.
Today I taught my child to love.

Someday my child must face alone
This fearsome undertone,
But I have blazed a sure pathway:
Today I taught my child to pray.

BRAIN STUDY!! Try this..

Nice one. It is surprising that how our mind is attuned to read even such jumbled,scrabbled words easily.

Two out of five women have heart attacks without experiencing chest pain, according to a study of more than one million people.

The study findings may partly explain why middle-aged women are more likely to die from a heart attack than men, despite more heart attacks occurring in men of the same age.
Researchers from the Watson Clinic and Lakeland Regional Medical Centre, Florida, analysed data on more than one million heart attack patients seen at US hospitals between 1994 and 2006.
Around 42 per cent of the patients were women.

Women were, on average, older than men when they had a heart attack (age 74 vs. 67 respectively).
Overall, around 35 per cent of heart attack patients said they didn't have chest pain or discomfort, probably the best known heart attack symptom.

But when researchers looked at symptoms in both sexes, they found that 42 per cent of women didn't have chest pain, compared with 31 per cent of men.

Middle-aged women were also more likely to die as a result of a heart attack in hospital. Some 14 per cent of women under the age of 55 died compared with 10 per cent of men in the same age group. The gap between male and female death rates narrowed in patients older than this.

Heart attack patients without chest pain may receive less aggressive treatment in hospital, particularly if they are younger, and may also take longer to go to a hospital with their symptoms.

This could explain the difference in mortality rates between the sexes, the researchers said.

The authors wrote:

"Optimal recognition and timely management of myocardial infarction (MI; heart attack), especially for reducing patient delay in seeking acute medical care, is critical.

"The presence of chest pain/discomfort is the hallmark symptom of MI.
"Furthermore, patients without chest pain/discomfort tend to present later, are treated less aggressively, and have almost twice the short-term mortality compared with those presenting with more typical symptoms of MI."
Cathy Ross, senior cardiac nurse at the British Heart Foundation, said:

"Contrary to popular belief, a heart attack doesnt necessarily mean dramatic and excruciating chest pains.

"Symptoms vary; for some the pain is severe and yet others may feel nothing more than a mild discomfort or heaviness. The most important thing to remember is if you think youre having a heart attack, call for help.

"Younger women may need to heed that advice more than most because they appear to be less likely to have chest pains.
"Their symptoms can be overlooked by inexperienced medical staff because heart attacks in young women are rare.

More research will hopefully identify why there are such variations in the way heart disease affects men and women.
"Interestingly, smoking was found to be the main cause of heart attacks among younger women, compared to high cholesterol and narrowing of the hearts arteries in older women.

Its a reminder that we should all try to eat a balanced diet, get active and stop smoking."

The study is published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

The Greatest River

The Amazon - The greatest river
The Amazon is the greatest river in the world by so many measures; the volume of water it carries to the sea (approximately 20% of all the freshwater discharge into the oceans), the area of land that drains into it, and its length and width. It is one of the longest rivers in the world and, depending upon who you talk to, is anywhere between 6,259km/3,903mi and 6,712km/4,195mi long.

For the last century the length of the Amazon and the Nile Rivers have been in a tight battle for title of world's longest river. The exact length of the two rivers varies over time and reputable sources disagree as to their actual length. The Nile River in Africa is reported to be anywhere from at 5,499km/3,437mi to 6,690km/4,180mi long. But there is no question as to which of the two great rivers carries the greater volume of water - the Amazon River.

At its widest point the Amazon River can be 11km/6.8 mi wide during the dry season. The area covered by the Amazon River and its tributaries more than triples over the course of a year. In an average dry season 110,000 square km of land are water-covered, while in the wet season the flooded area of the Amazon Basin rises to 350,000 square km. When the flood plains and the Amazon River Basin flood during the rainy season the Amazon River can be up to 40km/24.8 mi wide. Where the Amazon opens at its estuary the river is over 325km/202 mi wide!

Because the Amazon drains the entire Northern half of the South American continent (approx. 40% landmass), including all the torrential tropical rains that deluge the rainforests, it carries an enormous amount of water. The mouth of the Amazon River, where it meets the sea, is so wide and deep that ocean-going ships have navigated its waters and traveled as far inland as two-thirds the way up the entire length of the river.

So, how did the Amazon get to be so big? The first reason has to do with its location - right at the equator. Around the "belt line" of the earth lies a warm, tropical zone where over 400 in/1016cm of rain fall every year. That averages out to more than an inch (3cm) of rain, everyday! A lot of water falls onto the land surrounding the river, what is called the "Amazon River drainage basin". A good way to understand what a drainage basin is to think of the whole northern half of the continent of South America as a shallow dish, or saucer. Whenever rain falls and lands anywhere in the river basin it all runs into the lowest place in the pan, which happens to be the Amazon River. The sheer volume of rain in the Amazon jungle, as well as the slope of the surrounding land, combine to create the enormous river known as the Amazon.
