मुकामु करि घरि बैसणा नित चलणै की धोख ॥
Mukām kar gẖar baisṇā niṯ cẖalṇai kī ḏẖokẖ.
They have made this their resting place and they sit at home, but the urge to depart is always there.
मुकामु ता परु जाणीऐ जा रहै निहचलु लोक ॥१॥
Mukām ṯā par jāṇī▫ai jā rahai nihcẖal lok. ||1||
This would be known as a lasting place of rest, only if they were to remain stable and unchanging. ||1||
दुनीआ कैसि मुकामे ॥
Ḏunī▫ā kais mukāme.
What sort of a resting place is this world?
करि सिदकु करणी खरचु बाधहु लागि रहु नामे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Kar siḏak karṇī kẖaracẖ bāḏẖhu lāg rahu nāme. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Doing deeds of faith, pack up the supplies for your journey, and remain committed to the Name. ||1||Pause||
जोगी त आसणु करि बहै मुला बहै मुकामि ॥
Jogī ṯa āsaṇ kar bahai mulā bahai mukām.
The Yogis sit in their Yogic postures, and the Mullahs sit at their resting stations.
पंडित वखाणहि पोथीआ सिध बहहि देव सथानि ॥२॥
Pandiṯ vakāṇėh pothī▫ā siḏẖ bahėh ḏev sathān. ||2||
The Hindu Pandits recite from their books, and the Siddhas sit in the temples of their gods. ||2||
सुर सिध गण गंधरब मुनि जन सेख पीर सलार ॥
Sur siḏẖ gaṇ ganḏẖarab mun jan sekẖ pīr salār.
The angels, Siddhas, worshippers of Shiva, heavenly musicians, silent sages, Saints, priests, preachers, spiritual teachers and commanders -
दरि कूच कूचा करि गए अवरे भि चलणहार ॥३॥
Ḏar kūcẖ kūcẖā kar ga▫e avre bẖė cẖalaṇhār. ||3||
each and every one has left, and all others shall depart as well. ||3||
सुलतान खान मलूक उमरे गए करि करि कूचु ॥
Sulṯān kẖān malūk umre ga▫e kar kar kūcẖ.
The sultans and kings, the rich and the mighty, have marched away in succession.
घड़ी मुहति कि चलणा दिल समझु तूं भि पहूचु ॥४॥
Gẖaṛī muhaṯ kė cẖalṇā ḏil samajẖ ṯūʼn bẖė pahūcẖ. ||4||
In a moment or two, we shall also depart. O my heart, understand that you must go as well! ||4||
सबदाह माहि वखाणीऐ विरला त बूझै कोइ ॥
Sabḏāh māhi vakẖāṇī▫ai virlā ṯa būjẖai ko▫e.
This is described in the Shabads; only a few understand this!
नानकु वखाणै बेनती जलि थलि महीअलि सोइ ॥५॥
Nānak vakẖāṇai benṯī jal thal mahī▫al so▫e. ||5||
Nanak offers this prayer to the One who pervades the water, the land and the air. ||5||
अलाहु अलखु अगमु कादरु करणहारु करीमु ॥
Alāhu alakẖ agamm kāḏar karanhār karīm.
He is Allah, the Unknowable, the Inaccessible, All-powerful and Merciful Creator.
सभ दुनी आवण जावणी मुकामु एकु रहीमु ॥६॥
Sabẖ ḏunī āvaṇ jāvṇī mukām ek rahīm. ||6||
All the world comes and goes-only the Merciful Lord is permanent. ||6||
मुकामु तिस नो आखीऐ जिसु सिसि न होवी लेखु ॥
Mukām ṯis no ākẖī▫ai jis sis na hovī lekẖ.
Call permanent only the One, who does not have destiny inscribed upon His Forehead.
असमानु धरती चलसी मुकामु ओही एकु ॥७॥
Asmān ḏẖarṯī cẖalsī mukām ohī ek. ||7||
The sky and the earth shall pass away; He alone is permanent. ||7||
दिन रवि चलै निसि ससि चलै तारिका लख पलोइ ॥
Ḏin rav cẖalai nis sas cẖalai ṯārikā lakẖ palo▫e.
The day and the sun shall pass away; the night and the moon shall pass away; the hundreds of thousands of stars shall disappear.
मुकामु ओही एकु है नानका सचु बुगोइ ॥८॥१७॥
Mukām ohī ek hai nānkā sacẖ bugo▫e. ||8||17||
He alone is permanent; Nanak speaks the Truth. ||8||17||
