How to keep your Brain Healthy

Memory loss and Alzheimer’s disease are attributed to weak neuron signals and communication within the brain. Eating berries can strengthen neuron signals and improve memory while reducing the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.
A study by Harvard researchers at Brigham and Women’s Hospital was done recently on berries and their effects on the brain. Elizabeth Devore, the lead author on this study stated, “Our findings have significant public health implications as increasing berry intake is a fairly simple dietary modification to reduce memory decline in older adults.”
Almonds are powerhouses and an excellent source of vitamin E. Almonds can help boost our brainpower and stabilize our mood. They contain phenylalanine, a chemical shown to work in conjunction with our cognitive processes and supports healthy neurological function.
According to a study conducted at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and Center for Memory and Brain Health; vitamin E is very important because of its ability to lower the risk of cognitive decline due to age.
Wild Salmon:
Wild salmon is one of the best sources for omega-3 fatty acids, specifically DHA. Omega-3s help keep brain cells healthy and promotes brain tissue growth.
Omega-3s are also linked to prevention of Alzheimer’s disease.
Dark Chocolate:
Dark chocolate is fast becoming a superfood. It has to be the most delicious brain food. Chocolate releases endorphins to help you cope with emotional stress. Dark chocolate is also packed with flavonoids, which help with cognitive functions.
Oranges, as you may know contain very high levels of vitamin C, which is a great antioxidant for the brain. Like dark chocolate, oranges also contain flavonoids which are essential for improving cognitive functions.
